Assigning Books

Assign books to your children and track their progress.

Assign books to your children to guide their reading journey. You can create reading lists, set deadlines, and track completion.

Browsing the Library

  1. Go to Library from the main menu
  2. Use filters to narrow down:
    • Age group
    • Category/theme
    • Reading level
    • Book length
  3. Preview books before assigning

Assigning a Book

Quick Assign

  1. Find the book you want
  2. Click the Assign button
  3. Select which child to assign to
  4. Confirm the assignment

Detailed Assignment

  1. Click View Details on a book
  2. Review the book information
  3. Click Assign to Child
  4. Configure options:
    • Due date (optional)
    • Priority level
    • Notes for the child
  5. Confirm assignment

Assignment Options

Option Description
Due Date When the book should be completed
Priority High, Medium, Low
Required Must complete vs. optional
Notes Message to your child
Setting due dates helps children develop time management skills and creates accountability.

Managing Assignments

View All Assignments

  1. Go to child's profile
  2. Click Assignments tab
  3. See all assigned books with status

Assignment Status

  • Not Started - Book hasn't been opened
  • In Progress - Currently reading
  • Completed - Finished reading
  • Overdue - Past due date

Removing an Assignment

  1. Open the assignment
  2. Click Remove Assignment
  3. Confirm the removal
Removing an assignment does NOT delete progress. The child can still access the book.

Creating Reading Lists

Organize assignments into themed lists:

  1. Go to Reading Lists
  2. Click Create List
  3. Name your list (e.g., "Summer Reading")
  4. Add books to the list
  5. Assign the entire list to a child

Best Practices

  1. Match Difficulty - Assign books appropriate to reading level
  2. Variety - Mix fiction, non-fiction, and educational
  3. Consistency - Regular assignments build habits
  4. Choice - Let children pick some books too
  5. Discuss - Talk about assigned books together
